Juniors and Seniors: 

Today we discussed how people communicate about sex. In one session, we explored how the analogies we use influence the way we think about an activity. Tonight, consider how definitions and popular culture teach us about sex and sexuality. Be ready for a quiz in which you will have to demonstrate that you read (I'm looking at you 11th Graders!)

Choose one of the following articles to read tonight and be ready to answer the following questions.

• What is the main argument of the article? 
• What are three ways the author supports their argument? You should be able to reference specific examples and evidence. 
• Why is the argument of the article significant?

Read over the definitions of sex at this link: Definitions. One is the dictionary definition and the others are by your classmates. Which definition do you agree with most? Why? How does this exercise help illuminate the significance of definition as a rhetorical strategy?

Seniors 
Complete the article you read in about sex ed in the Netherlands vs. sex ed in the US and answer the questions here:

Questions for analysis and discussion (remaining time):

• Identify and discuss the indicators used to measure the success of sex education programs, such as teen pregnancy rates. Are these indicators appropriate? Why or why not?
• Identify and describe sex education programs in the Netherlands and the United States. How are the programs similar? How are they different? (Compare and contrast)
• What do the Netherlands and the United States each hope to achieve through the implementation of their policies?
• What does research suggest about comprehensive sex education?
• Identify different topics covered by Dutch comprehensive sex education curriculum.
• How does federalism impact sex education policy in the United States?
• Identify and discuss the differences between the Netherlands and the United States in terms of outcomes in areas such as teen pregnancy

Juniors - Tonight, read one of your classmates' blogposts and evaluate it using the checklist at this link: Checklist for Blogpost. Each bullet point is worth one point and everyone gets one point bonus for completing the task. After you have gone through the checklist, prepare some feedback. Make sure your score and feedback is written in your notebook and ready to share at the beginning of class tomorrow. If you don't see your name, it means you did not complete your blogpost and need to do so tonight.

• What is one thing this writer can work on to improve their next blog post?  

Tips! Be fair and honest. Consider how to help this person improve as well as identifying their strengths. Also, too long is a point off, just like too short.

Seniors 
Your final exam is on Friday in which you will need to demonstrate comprehension of your film and your novel. Do whatever you need to do to finish both by Friday. I was available after school today to screen films and offer quiet reading space. Scott will be available tomorrow. 

Seniors -
In order to be prepared for the final exam on Friday and Monday, make sure that you are caught up on your reading. That means that you have 100 pages or less left of your book by Tuesday.

Juniors -

11AB: Complete the on-demand you began in class this morning. Here's a suggested structure:

1. Very short intro that introduces the conversation and your thesis

2. At least two paragraphs of support. The strongest arguments will be reason-driven and include at least two examples for each reason

4. Draw argument together and link to the larger world
