By 9:00 pm, paste a link to the image and describe in 100 words or less why you chose it on our class blog (link to the right of this post and in the AP tab). Since you only have 100 words, make them good - entertaining and persuasive. Why is this an apt representation of conformity or rebellion?

*Announcement! Your classmates took advantage of the rhetorical situation and got everyone an extension until Monday for your final paper deadline. We will not be working on the papers in class tomorrow, but you will have time to work on them during exhibition advisory.

For REVISION
Use the checklist for revision below to improve your body paragraphs. Revise at least one of them tonight. For the final grade, I will check the claim, organization/transitions and THREE body paragraphs. Remember that final drafts must be printed and turned in along with the first draft. All of the handouts from Monday can be found here: Resources . Other resources, such as transition word banks and organizational handouts can be found under "Resources for Close Reading and Analytical Writing" tab.

Checklist for Revising Paragraphs

-Does each paragraph include a topic sentence that states (or clearly implies) the main idea of the paragraph? -Does every sentence in the paragraph align with with the paragraph’s main idea? Eliminate those that do not relate. Consider using them elsewhere, but only if they are necessary. -Check the detailed support (evidence) in each paragraph. Is it sufficient for proving the topic sentence? Is it effective? What kinds of details or support are missing.-Does your analysis clearly explain the substance and details of your evidence? What other kinds of analysis might be more effective? If you are not sure, consult class resources to help you. -What effective  transitions are used to connect sentences?-What general words and phrases can you make more specific?

  • Two pieces of evidence that they use to support their argument.

AP Language - If you want to be as prepared as possible for this paper, reread Fun Home with your essay question in mind. I realize everyone may not have time for that, but everyone needs to come to class with at least nine pieces of evidence of textual evidence that addresses the prompt for your Fun Home paper. You will need a hard copy of the evidence in class. We will not have computers. Be sure to include evidence from the beginning, middle and end of the novel.

Monday, November 2, 2015

12B - Read until p. 288. As you read, choose a structure to record your thoughts: you can summarize or collect key quotations and analyze them. Notice how the events in the novel are building suspense. It's about to get crazy!

Inquiry into study guides:
What is it? How can we use it? What are the benefits of different platforms?
What would help me write a paper or understand a difficult text best?

AP Language -
