OPTIC - How to read an image

Objective: Scholars pay attention to the details in order to interpret a work of art. Today we will use OPTIC to study how an images details work together to convey an argument or draw a conclusion.

Paintings, photographs, and other images often spur writers to create a literary representation of what they see. In this unit, we will be looking at how poets and writers use images to create stories, interact with history, and create an emotional response in the reader. You will be creating your own poetry on an image when we go to MOMA. Before we begin our unit in earnest, we are going to spend two days thinking about how to "read" images and poetry.
