1. Revise your poem based on the feedback/brainstorming we did in class today. Gallery walk tomorrow.
2. Start thinking about the song you would choose for the Senior Song Book: the song that meant the most to you or best represented your high school experience.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Mr. Fanning is looking for a senior to tutor a 10th grader in his English and possibly History work. The parents will pay $10/hour and you can use your study halls to do so if you can't stay after school. There is the possibility of making $30-$40 a week if you are proactive on this. See Mr. Fanning if you are interested.

Homework, Juniors: Finish analyzing the poem you read today in class using the modified TYPCASTT below. Demonstrate the completion of the assignment in your annotations as well as a paragraph that discusses the poet's use of imagery.
Modified TYPCASTT
|
1. Annotate the title: ask at least two questions and write down connotations.
2. Read the entire poem to yourself and repeat until you know the detailed narrative.
3. Paraphrase: “In this poem, the speaker describes....”
4. Underline the imagery and write about it in the margin. Is it auditory? Visual? Olfactory (sniff, sniff), Gustatory (yum, yum) Figurative? How does it create a tone and/or mood?
5. Circle any lines that are related to the subject matter we are discussing in class (photography, color, race etc.). In the margins, jot down what the speaker seem to be saying about the subject.
6. Reread the last lines of the poem - what do they leave the reader with? How do these lines help develop the argument of the poem?
7. Look for repetition. Where are things repeated? Is the poem circular? How does that further develop the poem’s theme?
8. Write down the poem’s theme. It may take a few tries until you get it right. Take your time:)
