Senior Songbook and Weekend Homework for Juniors

Seniors! The Senior Songbook Blog is up at seniorsongbook2014.blogspot.com

1. If you get your completed your assignment finished today, nice work! If you haven't posted yet, your grade is already dropping. Please submit it ASAP for approval. You need to send me an email telling me you're ready to post.

2. Bring in any books that belong to the school. Here is a list of the last round of books I distributed: borrowing list. Bring these in addition to The Great Gatsby, Carrie, Sharp Objects etc.

Steps for Senior Songbook
1. Finish drafting.
2. Once you have a draft, give it to an editor for proofreading and start collecting links to the songs, so that people can listen to the songs before/after/while they are reading.
3. Find video clips/gifs/photos (either personal or from the web) that will make your post even more engaging. See entries that are already posted for examples.
4. Once you think it is ready to be published, write me an email that says, "SONGBOOK READY TO PUBLISH" in the subject line. I will proofread it before sending you an invitation to be an author on the blog.
5. Post your blog. Make sure that your first name is in the title, so people can easily find your entry on the blog.
6. Read and write thoughtful comments on four people's posts. Two assigned and two of your choice.

Once you post, begin reading this article on Fraternities for our final unit: College, The Movie. As you read the article, identify the writer's central argument. How does he persuade you (or na)?

The Dark Art of Fraternities

Juniors!
1. I emailed many of you with instructions to finish your on-demand over the weekend. Please do so. If you did not get an email/shared doc from me, you are finished.

2.  PROOFREAD YOUR ON-DEMAND AND ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS ON THE TOP OF YOUR DOCUMENT.
a.) Highlight the strongest paragraph of your essay. What are you doing well here?
b.) Describe what you did to prepare to write this essay. Be honest.
c.) Overall, what grade would you give yourself from 0-4.0. Why?

2. Buy/borrow a copy of The Great Gatsby by Monday, May 12

In preparation for your writing tomorrow, I suggest doing the following:
1. Review the on-demand essay prompts and questions: Essay Prompt and Discussion
2. Review your main points and outline your essay using the prompt (all links on yesterday's blog post)
3. Go over the sentence stems for analysis
4. Research the poems and the poets.

Here are two prompts that may be helpful for your claims:

While both _________ and _________ use ________ to explore __________. Ultimately, ________wants the reader to understand ___________ and _________wants the reader to understand _______________.

Both _______ and _________use/utilize/employ _________ and _________ to explore _____________________. However, ______suggests _________,whereas ______implies____________.
