Wednesday, Homework

Juniors -

11A and 11D: Read chapter seven and prepare for tomorrow's discussion in which we will look at how The Great Gatsby supports or refutes the following critical lenses:

“A story must be exceptional enough to justify its telling; it must have something more unusual to relate than the ordinary experience of every average man and woman.”
-Thomas Hardy

"The truly educated man is that rare individual who can separate reality from illusion.”
-Umberto Echo
Tomorrow, our goal is to do the following:
~ Provide a valid interpretation of the critical lenses that clearly establishes the criteria for analysis
~ Indicate whether you agree or disagree with the statement as you have interpreted it
~ Use the criteria suggested by the critical lens to analyze The Great Gatsby so far
~ Avoid plot summary. Instead, use specific references to appropriate literary elements (for example: theme, characterization, setting, point of view) to develop your analysis
11A: If you did not turn in a literature review today, you must complete and turn in the one you worked on today in class.
