Homework, Tuesday, November 25

Do the Right Thing
Plan and outline your on-demand essay and print out resources you may want to use*. Before you start on your outline, please read the prompt and sample outline below carefully to prepare. Students who have an outline in class tomorrow will receive credit for their work. You should review your analytic paragraphs and the commentaries before class tomorrow, as they may inform your writing. However, your essay should go beyond the scope of the writing you've done in the unit so far.

On-Demand Instructions
Write an essay in which you discuss the functions of one of the characters from A Streetcar Named Desire. In your essay, you may want to focus on:
1.) The character's traits and behaviors (STEAL)
2.) How those behaviors and traits are punished, rewarded, or go unnoticed by the other characters in the play
3.) Williams use of the character to reflect and critique some aspect of society

Great discussions today! And put the effort in tonight and tomorrow. There won't be any homework over Thanksgiving break. Gobble gobble.

* Helpful resources are on the "Resources for Close Reading and Analytic Writing Page." For this assignment, I suggest referring to marker verbs,  transition language and topic sentences, sample body paragraph with checklist, and sentence stems to help you analyze characters

AP Language and Composition

Write a commentary on the first 100 pages of your book and reply with a couple of sentences to another person.

How? Go to our class blog and find the title of your memoir. Under that post, click on "comments" and post your commentary there. You can see Anastasia's and Ana's as examples under Girl Interrupted. Class blog is here: AP Language and Composition Blog. Be sure to sign your name at the end of your post!!!!
