Do the Right Thing -
1. Finish A Streetcar Name Desire. Make sure to read carefully to ensure that you understand the final scenes. You may also want to check sparknotes or shmoop to see how others interpret the ending.
2. Write a commentary on the play and its ending. You may want to respond to the following prompt, but feel free to discuss other points, respond to your peers or take us in a new direction. Commentaries should be between 200-250 words, include evidence from the text and integrate other people's comments.
PROMPT: The characters in Streetcar are often read as symbols of various aspects of society. What do Stella, Stanley, and Blanche represent? How do you know? (Use evidence from the text!) Are they still relevant to today's culture or are they a product of a different time and place?

2. ALSO DUE ON MONDAY, SOAPSTONE for your memoir. Look back at your notes from my mini-lecture on Douglass for an example. See me tomorrow if you have any questions. I am happy to discuss and clarify the assignment if necessary.
3. By the end of the weekend, read the first 75-100 pages of your memoir. You will need to finish it by Monday, December 1 and complete a reading response next week (details to come).
