Weekend Homework, September 23

Seniors

Make sure you know what you are writing your college essay about on Monday. We will be drafting then.

AP Language

1. Revise your meme proposals based on the feedback I gave you on checklists and google docs. I will average the two scores for your final grade. Depending on your proposal, your revisions should take you between 15-45 minutes. If you did not receive a text from me, you do not need to revise and I will give you your checklist on Monday.

2. Head on over to our classroom salon to comment on the articles about memes in more detail (link is in AP Language tab of this blog). I put questions up to guide you towards comments and questions that are more deeply rooted in the texts and get at the rhetorical concepts we have covered thus far. While this assignment will count as work habits, it will help you on future reading assignments that are graded for skill. This should take you about 20-30 minutes, depending on how much reading you completed in class today.

*For full work habits credit, write three comments or responses to each article that does some combination of the following work:

-Paraphrase concepts or arguments
-Define key terms, phrases or unknown vocabulary (If you don't know the word, it is probably unfamiliar to other people in the class as well)
-Respond to my prompts and questions
-Respond to others with answers that include references to earlier or later sections of the text
-Answer questions from the Non-fiction critical reading tool I gave you this week

*Please note that I had to change some aspects of my grading system to reflect the 4 point scale. Long-story short, 4.0 is mastery, 3.8 is strong, 3.4 is proficient, 3.0 is basic, 2.6 is minimal, 2.2 is insufficient. See syllabus on AP tab for an explanation of what each of those values means.
