Complete the "Connections" paragraph of your paper. Make sure that you chose the connection that will most likely STRENGTHEN your claim. A medium level and high level connection to a secondary source can be found here: Connections, Before and After
Here is one way to introduce a connections paragraph:
When exploring the topic of _____, it is useful to consider (research/the author's POV/another text/historical connection or current event) + Explanation of secondary source using key terms of the paper + Connection to the claim.
Tip! Name specific characters and/or events from the novel.
Students who send me a strong connections paragraph by midnight will receive extra credit and may see their work on the class website!

AP Language
Tonight, follow the steps I gave you today to analyze the tone of the song "Criminal" by Fiona Apple.
1.) Write down the images and words you notice
2.) Categorize the images: what do they have in common? Or are they contrasting? Which senses do they appeal to?
3.) Categorize the diction: are there lots of negative words? Positive words? A mix or contrast? What kinds of patterns do you notice?
4.) Synthesize and use the tone word bank: How do the patterns contribute a specific tone?
5.) Give yourself a pat on the back for doing this difficult work😃

Tip! If "Criminal" feels too difficult, find a different song to analyze. Some examples that come to mind: "Say a Little Prayer" by Aretha Franklin or "Hold On, We're Going Home" by Drake. I don't really care which song you use, as long as you have a record of your thinking in a chart and a short paragraph and are ready to discuss the song's tone in class tomorrow.
