    Get Out Commentary
What I found most interesting from watching Get Out, were the multiple symbols used throughout the film. The first symbol that was demonstrated in my opinion was the deer. If you were to google the definition of a deer you would get "a hoofed grazing or browsing animal, with branched bony antlers that are shed annually and typically borne only by the male". The deer that was thrown on top of the car in a way symbolizes Chris's mother. The fact that the deer flew into the woods alone, triggered Chris to discover its wellbeing. As he was listening to hear for the deer, a lot of emotions could have been going through his mind. Since his mother died alone, it provoked Chris to go and search to see if the deer were okay. It's also interesting to see that when Chris & Rose tell the parents they hit a deer, the father comments and says he wishes all deers would die. Symbolizing that since deer are these grazing or browsing animals who are feared but also admired to symbolize black people. Concluding to the overall message, that during the auction of Chris, the white folks were admiring his physical traits, and mental traits. Admiring his body parts, but also looking at him like an object opposed from an individual. What I also found interesting was the use of color in the film. While the mother was doing the hypnosis on Chris she was wearing a white shirt, and underneath she was wearing a black shirt. Which initially highlighted this idea that White people will always be at a higher rank than blacks. They are more recognized/acknowledged. Also when the brother killed the boy in the beginning the car was completely white on the outside, but black on the inside. And when all the white people were arriving to the auction they did so in all Black cars. Get out addressed a lot of "issues"'in society in terms of the racism, the implicit and explicit beliefs. How both white and blacks react to racism, it's does a good job at opening the eyes of both races in order to illustrate the reality from the misinterpretation.

Today in our class Discussion for analyzing the Gothic and Horror themes of the widely popular movie “Get Out” there were many interesting ideas that came up during our share of ideas. One of them originating from how the movie illustrated how white people were the most superior in terms of intelligence and how blacks were superior in terms of physicality. And to create the ultimate being you would combine the both off of the influence of the tuskegee syphilis experiments. To elaborate on this idea there was a scene where Rose’s father is giving Chris a tour of the house when he first arrives. He then finds a picture of his grandfather on the wall and explains to Chris that he wasn’t able to qualify for the olympic games in 1936. It was the same olympic games in which Adolf Hitler attended and believed he had the most superior race (White, blonde hair, blue eyes) at the games. However he was sadly mistaken when Jesse Owens (A black man) swept everybody winning a gold medal. It was at that point where it was clear to the world that blacks are superior in physicality. The groundskeeper Chris approached was the grandfather’s mind in a black man’s body who wanted to exercise which was portrayed in the scene where he was sprinting towards Chris as if he was testing out his new body. Thus by implementing a portion of a White man’s intelligence inside of a black man’s body Peele reinforces the concept of the ultimate being because this person now has both gifted intelligence and physicality.
