Read the poems distributed in class today and linked here: Click Here . Then, choose two in which you will complete the following annotations.

1. Study the title.

• Try to determine what the author’s focus (perspective, point of view) is.
• Anticipate the tone.

2. Read the poem. Hear your voice in your head as you read or read the poem.

• Put a box around words you don’t know. If you can’t figure out their meaning from context, you will need to look these up.

• Who is speaking? What do you know about him or her based on what is said in the poem? Make sure to keep your inferences rooted in the poem, rather than jumping to conclusions based on the myth.
• What is the situation?

3. Expect a quiz tomorrow in which you will need to summarize the situation and speaker in at least two of the poems.
