AP Language and Composition -
1.) Like Thoreau and Emerson, the highly lauded contemporary essayist Joan Didion is interested in individuality and selfhood. Read her essay, "Self-Respect" which was published in Vogue magazine in 1961 Link Here. As you read, note her use of figurative language.
2.) Then, write a blog post (your last of the year!) by midnight on Sunday that discusses the presence of transcendentalist thought in Didion's essay. In order to get a 100%, include some discussion of her use of figurative language.
3.) Midterm review: the midterm will consist of a section of multiple choice, a rhetorical analysis essay, and a synthesis essay. Synthesis essays will be graded on a curve. You will also be expected to know the effects of rhetorical strategies (as stated on the questions for analyzing diction and syntax resource), several types of figurative language and specific words and strategies that help you identify and analyze diction and tone.
