GREAT NEWS!!! I received enough copies of FUN HOME for everyone. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BUY THE BOOK!!!
Homework:
1. Watch at least 30 minutes of the democratic debates, noting the way the candidates attempt to appeal to specific audiences. Then, write a page in your notebook describing what you saw and what you thought about the candidates language and the content of their arguments. Who made the best impression on you and why?
2. Read Michelle Obama's speech from the Democratic National Convention in 2012. Today, I taught you two kinds of repetition to look out for: anaphora and alliteration. I mentioned that Obama quickly establishes a relationship between SERVICE and SACRIFICE. Read the entire speech, noting how various types of repetition throughout the speech develop these themes. Note also she weaves a variety of narratives into the speech. You will have a quiz on the speech on Thursday.
