-Seniors- 

Lots of big events in this portion of the novel. Make sure you have read up to page 138 by tomorrow. You will have a quiz, focusing on chapters. 10-12. Different quizzes for each class :)

-AP Language-

Tonight, read chapter three of Fun Home and respond to the questions below:

1. You will notice that Bechdel begins the chapter with a DEFINITION, one of the rhetorical modes. How does this set you up for reading this chapter in a particular way?

2. Choose a topic about the text that interests you and respond in your notebook for about a page about how the chapter informs your understanding of the book thus far. Use at least two pieces of evidence from the text and integrate two of the prompts below to push your analysis:

-Add emphasis (make sure to specify WHAT it emphasizes)
-Create/shift tone
-Imply and develop associations between ideas/topics
-Highlight contrasts or similarities
-Imply a cause and effect
-Add complexity or nuance
-Complicate an issue
-Amplify an issue or emotion

Your grades from discussion reflect your performance today, but I recognize that we need practice. Please note that your lowest discussion grade will be dropped. Here is the discussion criteria:

-65: May be unprepared or does not participate, but takes notes and makes eye contact and practices habits of respectful non-verbal communication

-75:  Referring to text in discussion accurately, but mostly staying on the surface 


-85: Clear, evidence backed INTERPRETATION of the text (WHERE and HOW or SO WHAT)


-95:  You can analyze the author’s intent in an original way, revealing a deep understanding of the story and what it might represent. You go beyond the text and discuss the implications/significance as well as connecting it to other relevant class material or issues.
