Seniors - Read Chapters 5-6 in your notebook, collecting evidence that answers the questions OR track a different issue of your own choosing. You should have a minimum of five quotations in your notebook. You may use the "It says," "I think" format I showed you earlier this week, or a system of your own choosing.

  • Many of you wonder what Achilles sees in Patroclus. We get some clues in these chapters. Track them and respond as you go...
  • How is Patroclus changing?
  • Parents: what do you notice about Achilles' parents in this chapter?
  • Your choice

AP Language

Today you reviewed one of the articles from our unit about family. This weekend, trade photos or ask for photos from friends of their pages. Then, add to your processing page, making sure you have a minimum of four of the readings broken down using the structure we used today. Finally, read across them and write 1-2 pages reflecting on the readings thus far. Use your available means; in other words, you do not need to write in paragraphs, although you certainly can! Other options include diagrams, flow charts, annotated illustrations, lists or any combination of the these.

Questions for Synthesis (You do not need to answer all of these questions. Instead, use them as a guide to write about the things that you find most intriguing:
  • What do these texts make you think about? Do they change your perception of anything?
  • What contrasts or comparisons do you notice? What contradictions? (A contradiction is the presence of two opposing ideas.)
  • How are individuals shaped and impacted by images of the American family?
  • How do these texts reinforce or challenge your conceptions of the American family?
