Homework, Friday, Sept. 29

-Seniors-
Spend 30-45 minutes working on your college applications. Here are some options: research campuses, start your common app and invite your recommenders, write a polite email requesting a letter of recommendation from a teacher, or ask a friend or adult to read over your college essay.

-AP Language and Composition-

Last week, we read and discussed "Checkers," a political speech that changed the course of Richard Nixon's career and influenced our political landscape. Make sure you understand why that speech was so influential by reading the article assigned on Thursday: http://www.usnews.com/news/articles/2008/01/17/the-dog-carries-the-day-for-nixon.

Your understanding of "Checkers" will enhance your analysis of the next speech we are going to read and analyze, "A More Perfect Union" by Barack Obama. This speech was a response to criticism and attention to Obama's association with his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright. Read about the situation here and take notes: http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/DemocraticDebate/story?id=4443788&page=1.

Next, watch the first three minutes of the speech and answer the quiz questions on EdPuzzle by 11:00 on Sunday night. You can access the link here: https://edpuzzle.com/assignments/5814a6dd3823b5f53e83956b/watch. You will read the rest of the speech in class on Monday.

Finally, if you did not finish your essay in class on Friday, spend no more than 25 minutes completing it at home.

Have a great weekend!
