Chapter 33
La Taillade-Espinasse is thrilled with the perfume created by Grenouille and will describe the perfume in his upcoming book. However, he first wants to wear the perfume. He describes the scent as making him feel "buoyant, revitalized and several years younger" (156). Grenouille provided him with the formula for the perfume in return for "fifty louis d'or" (157). Espinasse's seminar is a great success and many people from various organizations came to view Grenouille's dramatic change. Before the presentation, Grenouille had applied the perfume that he made him smell human, which impacted how the people viewed him. They looked at him with a "milder eye" and a "look of childlike ease" (158).

Beginning of Chapter 35
Grenouille leaves the town of Montpellier and arrives at the town of Grasse. Grasse was known as the "Rome of scents, the promised land of perfumes" (166). Grenouille decided to live in Grasse because he wanted to learn new techniques. The town is extremely crowded but there are numerous businesses that exist within it. The town is mostly middle class men and women. Although the town does not appear wealthy, these individuals have many resources and goods available to them. As he is standing and observing the city, Grenouille is captivated by a smell.
