Homework, Monday, October 25

Do the Right Thing - Read through all of the instructions for your assignment.

1. Make sure you have the text you chose to analyze in class tomorrow. If you need a copy of a short story, click on the link and print it BEFORE CLASS tomorrow:

"Until Gwen" by Dennis Lehane
"Escape from Spiderhead" by George Saunders
"The Lottery" by Shirley Jackson
"The Veldt" by Ray Bradbury

2. 12AB/11CD -- Complete a STEAL chart for at least one female and one male character in the text you chose. When you come in tomorrow, be ready to discuss your research with your group and present your findings in class.

  • How does the work seem to define masculine and feminine?
    • Do the characters’ behaviors always conform to their assigned genders (think, STEAL)?
    • What are the consequences (or rewards) of their conformity or rebellion?

AP Language - Read Sixth Nine Cents by Gary Shteyngart, using the questions on diction and syntax resource to focus your annotations. We will discuss the essay tomorrow.
