1. Do 20 minutes of research on one of the following topics based on your last name:

2. Read chapter one The Great Gatsby. As you read, consider the following questions. Write answers to them in your notebook with two pieces of evidence to support your answer.
1.) What kind of character is this narrator and what makes him complex?
2.) Nick begins by with a quote from his father that makes it clear that he is "advantaged." What other evidence does he provide to explain his socioeconomic status?
3.) What interests you about this novel?
